If this is true, then I'm hopefully living my purpose. It's always been a desire for me to change the world in some way, no matter how small or insignificant my contribution may be. I've always been compelled to tell stories that challenge us. Stories that make us think twice before judging one another. Stories that make us step back and analyze ourselves and our commitment to the life we've been given. Stories that make us question our unquestionable faith. Stories that make us doubt our own skepticism. Stories that challenge what we believe to be undeniable truth. Stories that bind us together in unimaginable ways, without dividing us as imagined. So I figured I'd give it a shot by writing a novel that exposes the horrors of our potential future if we continue down the path of cultural degradation that we're seemingly on. I don't think any of us would disagree that our world is in decline. What we can't seem to agree on is how to fix it. I certainly don't have the answer. I only have the mind to ask the questions that might prompt us to try a little harder to find that answer. That's my mission. To tell stories that open the doors to change. Maybe I'm delusional, but I'm hoping that when all is said and done, I've made this world a better place in some way. Hopefully I don't leave it a bigger mess than I found it. But that's not really up to me. It's up to all of us. We're in this life together. Maybe we should start acting as if we're inseparable. Then maybe we could learn how to coexist without all the misunderstanding and tragedy that comes with the human condition. I hope to rise above my own human frailties. But hope is only the first step. It's the first step through the door. Let's take that step hand in hand.

P.S. Above all, I hope to entertain you. That's where the magic is. In the simple escapism of fiction. That's what makes writing a pleasure for me, not just a torment. I ultimately hope to bring joy into your life, as writing has brought joy into mine.
"Writing is trauma in catharsis. A purging of our own demons. A way to survive a world that is unforgiving and fraught with indifference. The writer has to make sense of the world, or else. That's why I write. To give life meaning, which after all, is the meaning of life." - Jared Martin
My name is Jared Martin. I'm 45 years old going on 13, and the latter part of that equation is never going to change. To be young at heart is to be free of spirit, so I try to stay young, even though my aching body and weary mind and daunted soul put the shackles on me every day. I'm an author, a father, a brother, a friend, a partner in life, and a grateful son. I love stories and music and creating them both. I'm obsessed with the pop culture of my youth, i.e. the gloroius 80s and 90s, and I believe that a writer's contribution to society is only as significant as his or her readers wish it to be. It's a collaborative effort - this strange, whimsical thing called storytelling - and you, the readers, are the ones who make or break a story. So thank you for taking my story from the black and white pages to the colorful depths of your imagination and bringing it to life.
